Carlos TorresCarlos F. Torres received his Ph.D. from University of Tulsa (Mechanical Engineering), his dissertation title was “Modeling of Oil-Water Flow in Horizontal and Near Horizontal Pipes”. He received his M.E. degree in Applied Mathematics from University Los Andes – Venezuela in 2001 and his thesis title was “Adaptive Mesh Implementation for CFD Computer Code”. He received his B.E. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Los Andes – Venezuela in 1995 (2nd rank) and his undergraduate thesis was honored (publication recommendation). Since 1996 Carlos has worked at the University of Los Andes – Venezuela as Instructor in the Thermal Science Department teaching courses in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, turbomachinery and introduction to oil production, he has been advisor of many undergraduate thesis related to thermal systems and oil production. In 2001 he received a scholarship to develop doctorate studies in UK but he declined and travel to USA to develop his Ph.D. at TUSTP. He also has worked Multiphase Flow in pipelines and has special inters in turbulent diffusion process for multiphase flow. During his PhD he participates in I/UCRC on Multiphase Transport Phenomena (sponsored by the National Science Foundation), and co-develop the computer code “FLOPATN”. He has expertise in designing and developing mechanistic models for predicting the performance/transitions of various multiphase devices, and developing CFD analysis for them. He has published papers in journals and congress in areas such as gas lift optimization, turbulent diffusion, multiphase flow, thermal systems and CFD. Also, he has worked in projects for PDVSA, Chevron and Shell and teaching courses for the industry in centrifugal pumps. Actually Carlos is an Associate Professor at Thermal Science Department at the University of Los Andes – Venezuela where he is teaching, conducting research in local measurements for multiphase flow and developing industrial projects for PVDSA in the area of smart wells. |
